Hello!!
I’m having so much fun! Being a missionary is the best! It’s kinda
like FSY where you have all this spiritual stuff but then have so much
fun at the same time. My companion is Sister Cowley, she’s from
Riverton Utah and she'll be serving in the Seattle Washington mission.
She’s the best companion and we get along really well! There’s ten in
our district, four sister and six elders. I’m the only one not from
America haha. Everyone gets along really well and we have a lot of fun
together! We’re pretty much always together. The other two sisters
Sister Smith and Sister Baxter are also going to Seattle Washington.
Elder Engler, Elder Cowles and Elder Hawes are going to Rochester New
York and lucky me I’m not alone! Elder Robison, Elder Kneeland and
Elder Andrews are all going to my mission!! None of them have their
visas yet though so I really hope they get them in time coz I don’t
wanna travel by myself. Elder Kneeland and Elder Robison come from
towns with less than 300 people so India is going to be a big change
haha. Elder Kneeland is from Montana and he loves his cowboy boots and
wears them everywhere haha, it’s so cool.
Whenever I tell people where I’m from they’re like wow you’re from
Australia and then when I tell them I’m serving in India they’re like
double surprised!
Good motivation from the MTC president was that the more diligent
you’re on your mission, the more attractive your future companion will
be haha
Dinner here is so early!! It's at 5:30pm and by the time you go to bed
at 10:30pm you’re so hungry. The bread here is real gross too! I tried
an American drink here called cactus cool though and it kinda just
tastes like Fanta. The food as a whole isn’t that great and makes me
feel kinda sick so sometimes I don’t eat much. I had Chick-fil- a for
the first time and it was actually pretty good! Chick-fil-a, curly
fries and Hawaiian pizza are pretty much the only good meals I’ve had
here. Ooh and one time for breakfast they had hash Browns! I vomited
in my mouth one morning and I’m 100% sure it’s from the food. I would
love some food imported from Australia. A microwave meal sounds like
luxury right now.
My name tag is cool! It's a magnet so I don’t have to put holes in all
my clothes! When you’re new on the first day you get an orange sticker
on your name tag and everyone walks past you saying “welcome to the
MTC” in whatever language they’re learning too.
The temple is closed for the next three weeks so I’m pretty gutted
that I won’t be able to go to the temple while I’m here and then for
the next 18 months on my mission either.
I showed the sisters in my room vegemite and sang the vegemite song
and sister Baxter got her phone out to record me haha. The song is
catching on though! My companion even finds herself singing it too!
All the missionaries without devices get an IPad in the MTC so that's
cool but also a bit of a tease because I won’t have a device on my
mission. I'm able to read emails when you send them though, I just
can’t respond until P-day (Tuesday) I can email all day on P-day
though from 6:30am till 6:00pm. I love getting emails throughout the
week. Our district leader checks for mail twice a day (when he
remembers) so send some letters my way!
We taught a lesson on our second day there, it was just a teacher but
still. We had our first district meeting this week and the branch
presidency love my accent and want me to stay longer so that they can
get my accent. Even my companion says she says things with an
Australian accent haha I thought I was the one meant to gain an
American accent. For a lot of the Americans I’m the first Australian
they’ve met which is pretty cool.
At our first branch meeting me and my companion were called as the
zone music organisers so we're in charge of choosing the hymns each
Sunday and choosing someone to chorister and play piano and we can
also organise musical items if we want.
Elder Robison (district leader) always says this when we come out of
class. Gospels true, book is blue, Moroni's always on the ball.
It was Elder Andrews's birthday this week and we were in class and my
companion sat down and i sat next to her so I was sitter in between
her and Elder Andrews and then Elder Cowles who's usually kinda quiet
was like when it’s my birthday do I get to sit next to a sister and we
were all silent for a minute and then we all burst out into laughter
and a teacher just gave him a look like that was inappropriate to say
but it was so funny!!
We had a competition with the Elders after lunch one time to see who
could get ready for sport the fastest and we were ready first and were
just waiting for them for ages! Elders take so long to get ready!
Well a mission is exactly what I expected! I'm tired and hungry all
the time! There was like one time I didn’t feel like falling asleep in
class and I was so proud of myself.
All these Americans were singing the American Anthem (literally
everyone in the MTC is American) and then when they ended it I was
like advance Australia fair. It was really funny.
It was fast Sunday on Sunday and so I was super hungry for dinner! I
even had room for ice cream but it wasn’t even that good which was a
let down. Funny story though! The icey poles are so frozen that when
Sister Cowley licked it her tongue got stuck to it! It was there for
ages and it was hilarious!
I tried to stay awake for the Sunday night devotional but I think I
fell asleep without realising and then after Elder Engler said that I
was asleep and that my head kept rocking back and forth and it was
apparently very funny!
Elder Robison taught me how to make an origami crane and it’s so cute!
Unfortunately we didn’t have any apostles speak to us because all
twelve of them were there last Sunday for the mission president
training and I’m so sad I just missed them! They were there Sunday,
Monday and Tuesday.
You can choose what movie you watch Sunday night and we watched
character of Christ by Elder Bednar and apparently it can only be
watched in the MTC which is a shame because you’ll never be able to
hear Elder Bednar's Cookie Monster impersonation.
I saw people putting away all the flags that are up everyday and I was
like put the Australian flag up and they actually did! It's been up
three times but every time it’s up there’s never any wind so you can
see the flag or we’re too busy to get a photo. I will get one before I
leave!
Joke time! Why are missionaries bladders so full? Because they only
get one P-day a week!
We taught our first investigator on Monday and for this one they don’t
tell you whether they’re a member, non-member or inactive. We have a
girl and she’s from Nigeria, we can’t say her name so we just call her
Id. We get along really well with her especially since she knows what
sausage rolls are! She also knows all the Cadbury chocolate!
There’s just some words I say sometimes and people are like what¿ like
we were playing volleyball and a sister was like I need a drink and I
was like there’s a bubbler just over there and she just looked at me
funny and was like a what? This has happened for maccas, cubby house,
chatter box and capsicum. I was getting a wrap from the wrap bar (bad
choice, just made me feel sick) and I said I wanted capsicum and the
guy was just like I have no idea what that is. My district loves it
when I say crickey and they even go around saying it sometimes.
I had this sister guess where I was from the other day and she said
France. I’ve never heard that one before but I’ll take it.
The character of Christ is instead of turning inward like the natural
man he turns outward in love and compassion.
Love Sister Watts ❤️
